With the gentle sounds of nature all around them, our young Shaanthians stepped into a fascinating world of feathers, calls and fluttering wings at the Bird Sanctuary, Arthanaripalayam.
The S3 students of Shaanthi ICSE School, Periyakottai; Shaanthi ICSE School, Jothinagar; and Shaanthi International Play School, Mahalingapuram came together for an enriching Science field visit centred on Birds: Food and Habitat.
What they had learnt from their books suddenly came alive around them. The Shaanthians observed macaws, rainbow lorikeets, parrots, pheasants, fantail pigeons and the magnificent ostrich, discovering fascinating details about beaks, claws, feet, food habits and habitats. The sight of the ostrich and its enormous egg brought particular excitement, while the colourful birds inspired endless curiosity.
The visit gently transformed a Science lesson into a living experience. A beak became a story of adaptation; a claw revealed survival; a bird’s food reflected its habitat; and the sanctuary became a reminder of our responsibility towards living creatures.
As they watched, listened and observed, the Shaanthians discovered that nature has its own language—and that learning becomes deeper when we experience it firsthand.
They returned with photographs and happy memories, but also with a greater appreciation for biodiversity, habitats and the importance of protecting the natural world.
Sometimes, the most memorable lessons are not written on a page—they take wing, flutter before our eyes, and stay with us long after the journey ends.
