K1 Shaanthians Discover the Stories Behind Everyday Things
A supermarket shelf, a basket of vegetables and a colourful fruit stall may seem ordinary to adults. But to a young child, each is a little world waiting to be explored!
The K1 Shaanthians of Shaanthi School ICSE – Jothi Nagar, Shaanthi Montessori School – Udumalpet, and Shaanthi Montessori International Play School – Mahalingapuram, embarked on engaging educational visits to departmental stores and fruit shops, transforming familiar surroundings into exciting learning spaces.
From exploring groceries, household essentials and stationery to identifying fresh fruits, vegetables and leafy greens, the children discovered how everyday necessities find their way into our homes. They learnt about product arrangement, shopping lists, price tags and billing counters, while gaining an understanding of the roles played by shopkeepers, farmers and vendors.
The children also explored the colours, shapes, sizes and textures of fresh produce, understood the importance of healthy eating and learnt valuable social skills such as communicating politely, listening attentively and waiting for their turn.
At Shaanthi, such experiential outings are an integral part of learning. They encourage children to move beyond memorising facts and begin understanding how the world around them works. Every interaction nurtures curiosity, independence, confidence and an appreciation of everyday life.
