S5 Shaanthians Explore Industry and Organic Agriculture
A sheet of paper and a handful of fertile soil may seem worlds apart, yet both tell a story of resources, human ingenuity and transformation.
The S5 Shaanthians of Shaanthi ICSE School, Periyakottai, visited Vignesh Paper Industry, Vedapatti, and Selvam Organic Farms, Mukkonam, connecting their Social Studies lessons on Agriculture in India and Industry in India with real-world experiences.
At the paper industry, they observed the journey from raw materials to finished paper, discovering the fascinating processes involving pulp, machinery, steam cylinders and paper rollers.
At the organic farm, they explored 25 years of natural cultivation, learnt about manure and vermicompost, and discovered the vital role of earthworms in maintaining soil fertility. An interaction with the farmer further highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture.
The visit offered a valuable understanding of two essential pillars of society: industries that transform resources into products and farms that nurture the resources sustaining life.
One transforms what nature provides; the other protects what nature needs. Together, they offer a lesson in responsible progress.
