Not all classrooms have desks. Some are shaded by tall trees, scented with soil, and alive with the hum of nature.
S3 Shaanthians from Jothi Nagar, Mahalingapuram, and Udumalpet stepped into the green embrace of a coconut nursery farm as part of their Science lesson—“Parts of a Plant.” What awaited them was not just information, but an unfolding story of life itself.
They watched in awe as giant coconut seeds revealed their secret: the slow, patient act of sprouting. The “coconut apple”—a soft, edible surprise inside—became a moment of discovery, sparking delight and curiosity in every child. From dwarf to tall varieties, they learned how each tree has its own rhythm of life, its own span of giving.
The farm whispered more lessons—banana plants, arecanut, nutmeg, and teak stood as companions in the same soil, teaching the children about balance, diversity, and the hidden partnerships of nature.
When the visit ended, the children carried back more than knowledge. They carried wonder, a deeper respect for the hands that nurture, and the truth that every seed, no matter how small, carries the promise of a forest.
