Some journeys change what students see. The finest journeys change how they see the world.
For the Class XI and XII students of Shaanthi ICSE School, Jothi Nagar, Pollachi, Singapore became a living classroom filled with lessons in innovation, sustainability, urban planning and global citizenship. Accompanied by the School Correspondent and Madam Director, the students explored a city whose remarkable transformation offers inspiration to young minds preparing for a changing world.
From Gardens by the Bay and Supertree Grove to the URA Singapore City Gallery and HDB Gallery, students discovered how thoughtful planning shapes a nation. Visits to the Science Centre Singapore, National University of Singapore, Singapore Maritime Gallery, CapitaSpring Sky Garden and ArtScience Museum offered insights into science, higher education, trade, architecture and creativity. The Singapore Botanic Gardens, Southern Ridges, Henderson Waves, St. John’s Island and Lazarus Island revealed further lessons in biodiversity, heritage and sustainability.
Learning Beyond the Itinerary
One of the journey’s most valuable experiences was learning to navigate Singapore independently. Under the Correspondent’s guidance, students used maps, identified routes and took turns leading their group. They were allowed to make mistakes, rethink their decisions and correct their routes—a practical lesson in problem-solving, teamwork, confidence and independent thinking.
Learning began even before arrival. Visa procedures, travel documentation, immigration formalities, airport protocols, flight etiquette and public transport introduced students to the realities of international travel. Experiencing a different culture also fostered adaptability, courtesy and cultural awareness.
Preparing Tomorrow’s Global Citizens
For these young Shaanthians, this overseas journey was a valuable opportunity to experience the world beyond textbooks. At the threshold of higher education and professional life, they gained practical insights into navigating unfamiliar environments, communicating confidently, making informed decisions and learning from mistakes.
With the support of the Correspondent and Madam Director, the journey became much more than sightseeing—it was an opportunity to observe, question, discover and grow.
At Shaanthi, we believe education should not merely prepare students to enter the world; it should equip them with the confidence to navigate it, the wisdom to understand it and the vision to shape its future.
