On August 11 and 12, 2025, our S3 Shaanthians from Jothi Nagar and Mahalingapuram traded
classrooms for canopies, stepping into the vibrant world of the Arthanaripalyam Bird
Sanctuary.
Here, lessons on Birds: Food and Habitat unfolded not on blackboards, but in bursts of
colour and sound. Students wandered in small groups, their eyes following flashes of feathers
—Macaws in regal blues, Rainbow Lorikeets in jewel tones, Fan Tail Pigeons fanning elegance,
and the towering Ostrich that stole the spotlight.
They leaned closer to study curved beaks perfect for cracking nuts, strong climbing feet that
gripped perches, and scratching feet built for the ground. In between, they collected fallen
feathers, marvelled at the size of an ostrich egg, and watched parrots nibble on nuts, sprouts,
and sunflower seeds.
It was science brought to life—where wings became teachers, songs became lessons, and
curiosity took flight.
By the end of the visit, the children didn’t just know more about birds—they carried with
them the joy of having met these creatures in their own world, under the open sky.
