Shaanthi’s S3 Field Visit: Children meeting the art behind the attire

Our S3 Shaanthians—from both Jothinagar and Periyakottai—stepped into the weaving units of Samathur and Periyakottai with wide eyes and curious hearts. The moment they entered, the looms began their quiet storytelling—threads stretched like tiny highways, shuttles darting like swift birds, and fabric blooming under the weaver’s steady rhythm.

Grouped in small circles, children leaned closer to watch how a single strand becomes a saree—how cotton and silk-cotton threads travel, twist, and unite to form something graceful and strong. They listened to the weaver speak about patience, precision, and the long hours hidden behind every vibrant drape. Some even asked how long it takes for a saree to be born from a loom’s heartbeat.

And when the shuttles hummed, our children smiled with a new understanding—cloth isn’t just made; it is crafted. They saw colours braided into patterns, beams holding stories, and hands working with devotion.

Before leaving, our Shaanthians offered their thanks in the sweetest way possible—through a small, heartfelt song that filled the room like a blessing.

This journey stitched more than knowledge into them.
It stitched gratitude, respect for craftsmanship, and a quiet pride in knowing how everyday things have extraordinary beginnings.
A trip that didn’t just teach Science—
it shaped sensibilities, sparked curiosity, and strengthened the spirit of being a Shaanthian.
