Mountains That Speak Science

On August 2nd, the S5 students of Periyakottai and Jothi Nagar swapped their desks for dew-drenched leaves, traveling to the cool, cloud-wrapped slopes of Attakatti, Valparai. As part of their Social Studies lesson on “Weather and Climate,” they explored a space where geography could be touched, smelled, and seen.

Here, amidst whispering trees and wandering mists, Weather and Climate came alive—not as textbook terms, but as sights, scents, and sensations.

Guided by Forest Ranger Mr. Prabakaran, they learned how altitude shapes air, how forests breathe differently, and how communities live in harmony with the ever-changing skies. A visit to the forest museum and documentary sessions on tribal life offered rare windows into a world where climate isn’t just studied—it’s lived.

As rain gently drizzled and the hills hummed their quiet wisdom, the students didn’t just observe—they absorbed.

And when they descended from the hills, they carried back more than notes and pictures.
They carried a stillness, a spark, and a story—the kind only mountains can tell, and young minds never forget.
