Across Udumalpet Shaanthi Montessori and Mahalingapuram Shaanthi International Play School, our youngest learners stepped into the world of cooking — not with recipes, but with curiosity, joy, and a sense of accomplishment that only hands-on learning can create.
In Udumalpet, the K1 children began their Sweet Aval adventure with a gentle teacher-led demo. Soaked aval, soft coconut, and golden jaggery became tools of exploration as tiny fingers mixed, tasted, and proudly carried home their self-made treats. Their thoughtful clean-up afterward — washing vessels and arranging them neatly — quietly taught responsibility more powerfully than any lesson could.
At Mahalingapuram, the K2 learners dove into the art of making Peanut Balls. The room echoed with happy rhythms as children used the mortar and pestle, delighting in every crunchy pound. With shining eyes and eager hands, they shaped their peanut mixture into perfect little spheres that travelled home as tokens of their growing independence.
The parent days at both campuses added a heartwarming dimension. Children repeated each step with newfound confidence, while parents watched with joy as their little chefs crushed, mixed, rolled, and served with pride. Moments of shared smiles, playful chatter, and “Look, I can do it!” made the activity unforgettable.
These simple kitchen experiences did something bigger —
they nurtured fine motor skills, built self-belief, encouraged discipline, and deepened the bond between school, child, and family.
For Shaanthians, cookery became more than a task — it became a celebration of effort, joy, and growing capability.
