Learning Beyond the Classroom | Shaanthi School ICSE, Jothi Nagar
Can a humble coconut husk become a lesson in industry, innovation and sustainability? The Grade VII Shaanthians of Shaanthi School ICSE, Jothi Nagar, discovered the answer during their educational visit to Sri Bagavathi Amman Coirs, an agro-based industry at Nattukkal Palayam, Pollachi, on 16 October 2026.
Witnessing the transformation of coconut husks into valuable coir fibres and coir pith into compressed bricks, the students explored how raw materials acquire value through human ingenuity, machinery and enterprise. They discovered that what appears to be agricultural waste can become a useful resource, supporting livelihoods while promoting responsible resource utilisation.
Such experiences prepare young minds for a future that demands more than textbook knowledge. By observing real industrial processes, asking questions and connecting classroom concepts with practical applications, our champions begin to develop entrepreneurial thinking, environmental awareness, problem-solving abilities and respect for skilled labour.
