S1 Shaanthians Explore the Journey of Food
Sometimes, the best classrooms have shopping carts.
As part of their Science lesson on “Food from Plants and Animals,” our vibrant S1
Shaanthians from Mahalingapuram and Udumalpet campuses stepped into the colorful
world of food aisles—visiting Pazhamudhir Nilayam and Ganesh Departmental Store to see
learning come to life.
Wandering through stacked shelves and chilly sections, students spotted a rainbow of plant
based wonders—leafy greens, juicy fruits, crunchy veggies, grains, pulses, and more. But the
excitement didn’t stop there! Eyes widened at the sight of milk, cheese, paneer, eggs, butter,
honey, prawns, and chicken—all connecting what’s in their lunchboxes to its living source.
The stores became live laboratories of learning as children eagerly identified food groups,
asked questions, and matched what they’d read in books with what they could now see,
touch, and name.
They didn’t just learn what’s healthy—they understood why.
By the end of the visit, what started as a regular store run had transformed into something
more:
a delicious journey into nutrition, curiosity, and real-world science—served fresh from the
shelf.
